In Ubud I’d wake just before dawn and sit here as the sky turned from a dusty violet to a bright blue, listening as the jungle slowly began to wake around me too.
I’d make our coffees by boiling the water in a saucepan on our little portable gas stove. Life here is not as automatic. You don’t switch on the kettle and wait for it to boil, you have to tune into the saucepan and turn it off yourself.
It’s such a simple morning ritual but a beautiful way to be brought into the present.
